General Information about Jordan
Passport & Entry Visa Procedures
Consulates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan are authorized to issue tourist visas for 3 months, same could be obtained upon arrival without any delay, for groups over 5 persons, 5 lists of passport details are required, there are restrictions on certain nationalities which have to obtain their visas prior to arrival to Jordan.
Airport Tax & Health documents
Health docments are no longer necessary for persons traveling from U.S.A. and Europe, airport tax is JD 10 per person (US $ 16) but not for groups of 5 persons and more arriving and departing together.
Jordanian Currency
The Jordan Dinar is the unit of the Jordanian currency. It is divided into 100 piasters, each of which is divided into 10 Fils. Banknotes : 20 Dinars - 10 Dinars - 5 Dinars - 1 Dinar and Half a Dinar.
Coins : 500 Fils - 250 Fils - 100 Fils - 50 Fils - 10 Fils and 5 Fils.
Credit Cards
American Express, Diners Club, Master Card and JCB are accepted at leading hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and shops as well as Visa Charge Card.
Customs Regulations
200 cigarettes, 25 cigars and 1 litre bottle of spirits per person. Small cameras are not restricted but video cameras and professional photo equipments should be declared upon arrival.
Languages
Arabic is the official language. English is the second language.
National Holidays
Labour day 01 May, Independence day 25 May, Army Day 10 June, King Abdullah II accession to the throne 7 February, King Abdullah's birthday 30 January.
Religion
Islam is the official Religion. About 7 % of the population are Christians.
Religious Holidays
The Muslim calendar (Hegira) is 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calender and therefore its holidays vary from year to year. The Muslim Holidays are: Eidelfiter, Eideladha, Muslim new year, Al-Isra'a & Al-Miaraj, and prophet Mohammad's Birthday. In addition, Friday is a holiday in Jordan according to the tradition in most Muslim countries.
