The bath culture of the region gave rise to the production of many beautiful cloths used in the traditional steam baths. These cloths were at one time embroidered with silk, gold and silver threads.

Often the bridal trousseau included many richly embellished cloths for the traditional bath before the wedding ceremony. These fine cloths were prestige items among the noble families in the region. Some of the typical motifs used in these cloths evidence a Persian influence. Some have their roots in 10th century Yemen, which shares motifs depicted in the 6th and 7th century in India. These motifs were used in the 11th century in Persia after an influx of Yemeni craftsmen.

Overtime, the production of these luxurious cloths has ceased. However, bath cloths are still woven and embroidered in silk rayon. These cloths are woven as simple pieces in various sizes. They are produced in Aleppo and Hama. The patterns in the cloths appear in decorative stripes.
