Saye Technique

Home History Back

The saye textiles are woven on looms. All early looms perform the same weaving procedure. Simply, weaving involves the crossing of threads. Systematically, weft threads are passed across the warp threads, which run lengthwise on a loom. The weft threads are inserted in the warp threads and beat into them.

Traditionally, a horizontal loom known as a "nol" was used. The nol was wooden and could be easily disassembled and transported.
