The beauty of inlay on metal is undeniable. The art of decorating metal objects began in the Orient. In the 15^th century, Damascus became the center of this craft.

Today, dating from the 13th century, one of the earliest inlaid metal objects, created in Damascus purportedly for a sultan,  is displayed in the Louvres in Paris. The pinnacle of the production of these beautiful inlaid objects was the Mamluk Period.
